It has to start somewhere.
BUILDING A TECH COMPANYPHILOSOPHY OF THE DUCK

I knew that building Duckster DS from the ground up was going to be a daunting task to say the least. I am now the CEO, CFO, CTO, Legal, web developer, software developer, salesman, installer, and everything else in between. Somewhere around publishing the first version of DucksterDs.com and one of the three MVPs of the Darkwing Deletion web app, I started reading 'Building a Second Brain' by Tiego Forte. The concept revolves around the idea that Your Mind is for having ideas, not holding them. - David Allen.
It's true, the mind gets heavy, bogged down, overloaded trying to store so many goals and ideas going throughout your day holding on to every thought while simultaneously attempting to implement them effectively. The solution is simple: write it all down for later when you actually need it. This task makes it easier to revisit all your random bits of inspiration in order to find connections and develop plans you otherwise would not have seen juggling all that makes up your life day to day. So now I'm Duckster's head, and only, blogger. I'm only at Chapter 3 so I'm expecting that not only will the blog get better as I understand the concept more, Duckster will grow along with it.
Duckster is my baby. This company is not only my means to secure myself financially, but a true passion project. I'm wrapping up all my strengths, knowledge accumulated through life experiences skills acquired through previous jobs and combining them with what makes me; the goals that drive me in order to achieve that dream of truly loving my job. Also I get to be my own boss again which is a dream in itself. If my job sucks and I hate my boss, well you know.
Which brings me to another method that keeps me pushing on when building Duckster gets so daunting and I feel like I'm being suffocated from the weight of everything that comes with completing such an arduous task that is building a business all on your own. It's the Telos Method, and it's also something I've just started to explore so forgive me if my explanation feels a bit shallow ; I'm just getting my feet wet.
Imagine you come across an alien from some other highly developed planet that's come to earth to learn about the human race. He or she has a clipboard in their hands, they come up to you and simply ask you So what is it you do? What's your purpose here on Earth? Fast forward through the existential crisis this causes and the mayhem erupting and slicing through the synapses firing off in your brain as you struggle to answer that both simple and unfathomably complex query, What DO you do? Why ARE you here?
Why am I establishing Duckster when I could just find another job to pay the bills that would probably be a lot less stressful with a whole lot less room to fail at?
It's because of my parents. It's because I want to make a difference, because I want to use all the random skills I've come up with and apply them to something not only productive, but to something good. The world has become a scary place and it gets even scarier when we're being bombarded with warnings of the surveillance state and the AI overlords taking over. It gets even scarier for the elderly or anybody not technically savvy in a society where even your washing machine has a computer in it with an operating system and internet connection. In Florida that leads the country in instances of senior fraud, to the right person this could be so very frightening. But with the right person to step in and provide what Duckster provides, it doesn't have to be scary or even the slightest bit difficult at that.
So the Telos Method essentially just has you write down some of those basic questions: Who are you; What problems are you trying to solve, Why are you doing what you do, and so on. And it's not a static document, you revisit it periodically, review and revise it; just like you, your personal Telos document should evolve. Again I've just started looking into Telos and if it sounds interesting and like it could help you I'd suggest checking it out. The guy, Daniel Miessler, that came up with it is a brilliant person and he's put it on github.
So yea. This is Duckster and this is my blog. I promise there will be a whole lot more on the progression of Duckster and less of the philosophical stuff. This is, as they say, just the beginning.
